AUTOPSY OF AN ACCIDENT
Accidents happen. In racing they happen frequently. Mostly the damage is pretty minor, a little tap bends a wing, scuffs a bumper, breaks a headlight. But sometimes it's a big accident, to the point that the car is written off.
We've seen 4 cars written off since 2007, at the hands of four different guest drivers, at varying speeds in different ways.
One thing that nobody does with classic cars, and the XJS is now just that, is take ghoulish delight in assessing the damage that they sustain during a big crash.
Well, nor do we. What is contained here is an attempt to show how the safety features built into racing cars help save the driver.
It is mostly pictures, but you'll get the idea. 4 cars will eventually mean 4 pages, but for now, just make do with the first pair:
ANGELINA - MALLORY PARK TRACKDAY 2008. HEAD ON INTO ARMCO AT APPROX 80mph.
VANESSA - BRANDS HATCH 2013. FRONT-END SIDE IMPACT FROM ANOTHER CAR, 80mph +
