LISTER XJ40
Part 16 - Pimp my Ride.
Over the winter of 2015, the Lister changed hands, but remained within the walls of Kutuka HQ.
Work took place. The new owner was more enthusiastic about bringing the chassis along, and double-adjustable dampers crept onto the car. A custom, very thick, adjustable rear anti-roll bar was made, with fabricated brackets to allow compliance with the prevailing regulations. The combination improved the long-standing understeer.
Adjustable brake balance and further weight loss completed the overhaul.
The improvements worked. The car started winning the class, regularly.
That led to a new development, as Thruxton turned out to suit the car's chassis, the driver's testicles, and allow the Lister to unleash its monster 350bhp secret. It won the race, both days, becoming the first XJ40 to ever win the combined saloon/GT Jaguar race. We think.
The run of results was enough to take both the class and the overall championship titles.
What happened next? We don't know. It's the last we saw of it. Farewell to the Lister. We always thought that as a racing car it was a stupid idea, and of all the unlikely vehicles ever to take to a track, it was probably the most work we ever had to do, but in the end you can't deny that it worked.
And to be fair, it'll probably be the last Lister we ever touch!
Adjustable rear anti-roll bar transformed the handling.
Showing off the new polycarbonate windscreen and the subtle livery.
Enjoying the spoils of victory.
