Anglesey - Brands Hatch 2009

After the same problems at Snetterton, Anglesey was a distaster. It was not to happen again, it was getting embarrasing and frustrating, and it was getting to the point where I didn't want to go and waste the money at Brands Hatch without a trouble free test.

I decided not to enter the race at Brands, but just to test the car, save the entry fee until I was sure the thing worked properly.

There was much work to do though, the car needs a front wing and the bumper is a jigsaw that took me several days to knit back into shape. We've never been to Anglesey yet and come home without serious work to do.

A wing we had in stock, the bumper was fibreglassed back together, and for once painted with some proper car paint to save time.

One theory about the misfire was that the ignition amp was on the fritz, tales reach us of V12s that cook the stupid thing and cause all manner of problems. The early injection system we use has a type that's not that easy to find spares for, but Ebay provided one, and we relocated it just behind the grille on a big sheet of ally for extra cooling. A home-made heat sink.

All that can be done is change more parts and hope, that is what was done and then all I can now do is hope for a sucessful test.

It's about a week before the race that the entry list comes through and I find myself in the programme. I know I didn't enter the race. Turns out Andrew doesn't understand "no" and simply entered me into the race anyway. All I can do is negotiate a deal with him, if I don't finish the race then he pays the entry fee... That'll teach him.

MEGAN: Anglesey to Brands. With hindsight, nearly time for the swan to sing...

Yes, I did it again. I'm sure there's a point to the picture.
